Presidents’ Day and MLK Ski Weekend Restaurant Reservations

George Yates · Founder, SeatSwiper · Updated October 27, 2026

When do restaurant reservations open for Presidents’ Day and MLK ski weekends? It depends on each restaurant’s booking window, counted back from each night. A 90-day book reached MLK Saturday (January 16, 2027) on October 18 and reaches Presidents’ Saturday (February 13) on November 15; a 60-day book reaches them November 17 and December 15; a 30-day book December 17 and January 14. Book every night of the trip on the day it opens.

Outside Christmas, three stretches of the ski season fill restaurant books hard, each in its own way. Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, Saturday January 16 to Monday January 18, 2027, is a short three-night crush. Presidents’ Day is Monday February 15, and its weekend is only the start, because many school calendars take the whole week off. Spring break is a rolling series of March and early April weeks set district by district. This page works out when booking windows first reach those nights, using real ski-town books as of late October 2026, and how the competition changes in each period.

Count back from the night, not from the holiday

Most ski-town restaurants book on a rolling window: each day one more date joins the far end of the calendar, at midnight or at a set morning hour. So Presidents’ Day reservations never open all at once. What matters is the day a restaurant’s window reaches your night. Counting back from each holiday Saturday:

Two things follow. The nights of a trip do not open together: on a 30-day book, MLK Friday opens December 16, Saturday on the 17th and Sunday on the 18th, three separate mornings. A Saturday-to-Saturday Presidents’ week is seven dinners and seven opening days, January 14 through 20. And the far edge of the window is the softest that calendar will ever be, so set a reminder for each night on the day it arrives, in the restaurant’s local time. How OpenTable rolls dates forward is covered in when OpenTable releases reservations.

Where real books stand today

Here is how that arithmetic lands on real restaurants, checked against each venue’s own site where it publishes a policy.

MLK weekend: a Saturday, a second Saturday, then a soft Monday

Saturday is the hardest night, and Sunday books almost as hard, because Monday is off for most schools (New York City’s public schools close January 18) and plenty of offices. Friday is often a little easier, since much of the crowd arrives after dark, and Monday dinner is the soft spot as people drive home. If you are staying through Monday, aim that night at the restaurant you most want, and give Saturday to a place with a bar you could fall back on. Book Saturday and Sunday on their own opening days, not once both are in range.

Presidents’ week: seven Saturdays in a row

Presidents’ Day looks like a long weekend and behaves like a holiday week. New York City’s Midwinter Recess runs February 15 to 19, 2027, and many districts take the same week. Family Day falls on that Monday in Alberta and British Columbia, so Banff and Whistler get a provincial long weekend at the same moment, and London’s Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea schools break for half-term February 15 to 19, as most English councils do. There is no single crush night: Tuesday and Wednesday book like Saturdays, so the usual trick of moving a hard table to a weeknight buys little. Early and late seatings still help.

In the French Alps the week stretches into a month. French school winter holidays run in three staggered zones in 2027: Zone C from February 6 to 22, Zone A from February 13 to March 1, and Zone B from February 20 to March 8. Zone A starts the Saturday of Presidents’ weekend. Most rooms in our Alps guide book on SevenRooms with no published window, so check each booking page for how far it reaches.

Spring break: staggered weeks and earlier tables

Spring break is set district by district, which spreads demand across March and April. Dallas ISD is off March 15 to 19, 2027. Denver Public Schools take March 29 to April 2, the week after Easter. New York City’s spring recess is April 22 to 30. Easter Sunday is March 28, 2027, with Good Friday on the 26th.

What changes most is the shape of each night. Spring break crowds are families who want the 5pm to 6:30pm tables, so the early seatings go first and an 8:30pm table is often the softer one, the reverse of a February couples’ weekend. On a 90-day book, the Saturday of Easter weekend (March 27) opens December 27, in the middle of Christmas week, when nobody is thinking about March. It opens January 26 on a 60-day book and February 25 on a 30-day book. If your group is three families, the group ski trip guide covers big tables and kids’ seatings.

Sold out, or just not loaded?

Check a holiday Saturday in November and you may see nothing at all. Before you write the restaurant off, look at the Tuesday before it. If the Tuesday shows tables and the Saturday shows none, the holiday night is genuinely booked and you are working the cancellation list. If the whole of January and February is blank, the date may be outside the window, or the winter book has not been loaded yet, which is common in ski towns between seasons (the ski trip planning guide covers the autumn closures), and the move is to keep checking rather than settle for somewhere else.

When holiday-weekend tables come back

Cancellations on a holiday weekend follow the fee lines. Sweet Basil charges $25 per guest when a dinner is not cancelled at least 24 hours ahead, and Café Diva reserves the right to charge $50 a head inside 24 hours. People who will cancel tend to do it just before those charges start, so for a Saturday table the useful window is Thursday evening to Friday evening. Weather adds more: a storm that cancels Friday flights turns into released Saturday tables at odd hours. The general rules are in restaurant cancellation policies; if you are already in town with nothing booked, see the last-minute ski town guide. The holiday fortnight has its own Christmas and New Year’s guide.

Full disclosure: SeatSwiper is my product. Everything in this guide works without it. The last section explains where it helps and exactly what it costs.

Handing the opening mornings to software

All of this comes down to being at the right calendar on the right morning, in the right time zone, for every night of the trip, and again whenever a table comes back. That is what SeatSwiper does. You give it the restaurant, the nights and your party size, and it watches and books the moment the date opens or a matching table returns, on your own Resy, SevenRooms or OpenTable account, in your name. Nothing is resold or transferred. Your first booking is free, then a flat $5, charged only when it actually books the table, with no subscription, and a cancellation watch costs $1 to start. The limits: it works on those three platforms only, it needs your reservation account connected so it can book as you, and on a Presidents’ Saturday, when plenty of people want the same 7:30pm table, it can lose the race. It is never a guarantee.

FAQ

When can I book dinner for Presidents’ Day weekend 2027 in a ski town?

It depends on each restaurant’s window. Counting back from Saturday February 13, a 121-day book opened it on October 15, a 90-day book opens it November 15, a 60-day book December 15 and a 30-day book January 14. Snake River Grill in Jackson, for example, opens it at noon Mountain on December 15.

When do MLK weekend restaurant reservations open?

For Saturday January 16, 2027: October 18 on a 90-day book, November 17 on a 60-day book, December 5 on a 42-day book and December 17 on a 30-day book. Each night of the weekend opens on its own day, so Friday, Saturday and Sunday are three separate mornings.

Is Presidents’ week busier than Presidents’ Day weekend?

Often, yes, because the demand runs all week. New York City schools are off February 15 to 19, 2027, Alberta and British Columbia have Family Day on the same Monday, and most English schools break for half-term that week. Weeknights book like Saturdays, so moving to a Tuesday helps less than usual.

Why does a ski restaurant show no tables for my holiday dates in November?

Often the winter book is not loaded yet. Many ski-town restaurants close in the autumn and publish their winter shifts late, SevenRooms venues especially. If the Tuesday before your date shows tables and your Saturday does not, it is booked; if the whole winter is blank, it probably has not opened.

When is spring break 2027 for a ski trip?

There is no single week. Dallas ISD is off March 15 to 19, Denver Public Schools March 29 to April 2, and New York City April 22 to 30. Easter is March 28, 2027. Family weeks fill the 5pm to 6:30pm tables first, so book early seatings at the edge of the window.
