Telluride Restaurant Reservations: 14 Tables and a Free Gondola

George Yates · Founder, SeatSwiper · Updated October 27, 2026

How do you get a dinner reservation in Telluride?Telluride’s list of hard-to-book tables is short: 14 restaurants, 11 on OpenTable and 3 on Resy, split between town and Mountain Village and linked by the free gondola. Most OpenTable books already reach deep into the season, so book as soon as your dates are set, but 221 South Oak and Dunton Kitchen run only about 30 days, and the bars at The Grand, Wood Ear and Allred’s take walk-ins.

Telluride has one of the shortest lists of any ski town we cover: 14 restaurants you can book online, and every one of them is below. That number is the whole booking problem here. In a bigger resort, losing your first choice means moving down a long list. In Telluride it means one of perhaps four or five rooms that suit the evening, all of them chased by the same visitors in the same weeks. Eleven of the 14 take reservations on OpenTable and three on Resy, and the list splits across two villages: the old mining town in the box canyon, and Mountain Village up on the ski side, linked by a free gondola with a restaurant at its middle stop.

The gondola is part of the reservation

The Town of Mountain Village describes the gondola as “entirely free to commuters and sightseers.” It runs seven days a week from 6:30am to midnight and takes about 12 minutes between Telluride and Mountain Village, with stops at San Sophia Station on the way and at Market Plaza beyond the village center. Right now it is shut for fall maintenance, from Monday October 26 to Thursday November 19, with buses covering the route, and its winter dates run from November 20, 2026 to April 4, 2027.

So a reservation in the other village is easy, within limits. An 8pm table across the gondola from your room is a pleasant ride each way. A late seating that runs toward midnight is better booked on your own side, and so is any night you plan to stay for a last drink. Because the ride costs nothing, treat the two villages as one list: neither half is a quiet backup for the other.

How far out each Telluride book runs

None of the OpenTable rooms here publishes a release hour, so each new date simply rolls on at midnight Mountain, except at two Mountain Village hotel rooms that release a whole month at once on the 1st (covered in their entries below). What differs is the reach. As of October 2026, four books run about 181 days (Allred’s, The Tunnel, Kazahana and Sidework), which takes them past the gondola’s last winter day already. La Marmotte runs about 151 days, into late March. New Sheridan Chop House runs about 121, so Presidents’ Day weekend has been bookable since mid-October. Siam Talay runs about 90, reaching late January now, with Presidents’ Day Saturday arriving on November 15. The two short books are 221 South Oak and Dunton Kitchen at about 30 days, which puts Christmas Eve on November 24 and New Year’s Eve on December 1. The three Resy rooms publish no window. The general mechanics are in when OpenTable releases reservations.

In town: nine tables you can walk between

Halfway up the gondola: Allred’s

Mountain Village: four hotel dining rooms

The seats that never reach an app

With so few dining rooms, the bar stools matter more here than almost anywhere. The Grand and Wood Ear hold bar seats for walk-ins (Wood Ear its patio too), Allred’s bar is first come, first served, and Kazahana’s happy hour takes no reservations at all. The National serves its full dinner menu at its 10-seat bar, which is worth asking about at the door. For two people who can eat early, that is real supply on top of the online books. Walk-ins at hard restaurants has the tactics. Returned tables are the other source: mountain travel bends with the weather, and when flights or roads go wrong, tables come back close to the date. The holiday-week guide covers the December 19 to January 2 crunch specifically.

Full disclosure: SeatSwiper is my product. Everything in this guide works without it. The last section explains where it helps and exactly what it costs.

Watching a 14-table town

When the whole list is 14 rooms, missing the one night you wanted at The Tunnel tends to rearrange the trip around it. SeatSwiper takes over the waiting: give it the restaurant, the nights and the party size, and it watches the Resy or OpenTable book and reserves the table as soon as one appears, a new date rolling onto 221 South Oak’s calendar or a returned table at Allred’s. The reservation is made on your own account, in your name, and nothing is resold or transferred. The first booking is free. After that you pay a flat $5 only when it actually books the table, with no subscription, and a cancellation watch costs $1 to start, charged when the watch begins even if no table opens. It works only on Resy, SevenRooms and OpenTable, it needs your account connected, and when one table comes back and several people want it, it can lose. Town by town timing for the whole trip is in booking dinner for a ski trip.

FAQ

Is the Telluride gondola free, and how late does it run?

Yes. The Town of Mountain Village says it is entirely free, runs seven days a week from 6:30am to midnight, and takes about 12 minutes between Telluride and Mountain Village. It is closed for fall maintenance from October 26 to November 19, 2026, with buses running, and its winter dates start November 20.

How do you get to Allred’s in Telluride?

Take the gondola from either town or Mountain Village and get off at the middle stop, which the town calls San Sophia Station and Allred’s calls St. Sophia. Allred’s books on OpenTable, about 181 days ahead as of October 2026, serves a required three-course prix fixe, and keeps its bar seats first come, first served.

How far in advance should you book dinner in Telluride?

It depends on the room. As of October 2026, Allred’s, The Tunnel, Kazahana and Sidework run about 181 days on OpenTable, La Marmotte about 151 and New Sheridan Chop House about 121, while 221 South Oak and Dunton Kitchen run only about 30, so their Christmas Eve opens November 24. The Resy rooms publish no window.

Which Telluride restaurants take walk-ins?

Several hold seats off the apps. The Grand says walk-ins are available, Wood Ear keeps bar and patio seats for walk-ins, Allred’s bar is first come, first served, and Kazahana takes no reservations for happy hour. The National serves its full dinner menu at a 10-seat bar, which is worth asking about.
