Banff Restaurant Reservations: Year-Long Books and Lake Louise

George Yates · Founder, SeatSwiper · Updated October 27, 2026

How far ahead do you need to book restaurants in Banff and Lake Louise?Further than most ski towns. Every Banff-area restaurant in this guide books on OpenTable, and many run about a year ahead, so the holidays and February are already open and the move is to book the day your trip is confirmed. The 90-day rooms, including Sky Bistro, open the February long-weekend Saturday on November 15. Lake Louise’s Chef’s Stübli seats only 20 a night, three nights a week.

Banff is the simplest ski town to explain and one of the easiest to get wrong. All 42 Banff-area restaurants this guide draws on take reservations on OpenTable, so there is one app to learn, and as of October 2026, 17 of the ones currently open let you book about a year ahead. The difficulty is not the hour a date opens. It is that the dates you want have usually been open for months, and that Banff, Lake Louise and Canmore each run their own calendar. All three are on Mountain time, so a midnight rollover is midnight in Alberta: an hour ahead of Vancouver or Seattle and two hours behind Toronto or New York.

Why so many Banff books run a full year

A large share of downtown Banff is one company. The Banff Hospitality Collective says it runs 16 restaurants within a five-minute walk of each other, and eleven of the open ones are in our Banff data: Chuck’s Steakhouse, Lupo, The Bison, Three Bears Brewery, Hello Sunshine, The Maple Leaf, Park Distillery, Pizzeria Sophia, Balkan, Bear Street Tavern and Magpie & Stump. Every one of them runs an OpenTable book about 365 days deep. Add the Post Hotel Dining Room, änkôr in Canmore and a few others, and the holiday week, the February long weekend and March are all already open.

A year-long book changes the job. You are not racing an opening; you are booking the day your flights are confirmed, before anyone else on the same trip does. After that the tables that matter are the ones people give back, because plans made eleven months ahead change. Read the restaurant’s cancellation policy before you hold extra nights, and release the ones you will not use early enough for someone else to take them.

The 90-day rooms are the ones with a date to circle

Fifteen restaurants on the list run about 90 days, including Sky Bistro, Bridgette Bar, Hunter Steakhouse and the two Chateau Lake Louise listings. For them the arithmetic still matters. New Year’s Eve opened on October 2 and Christmas Eve on September 25. The Saturday of the February long weekend, when the American Presidents’ Day and Alberta’s Family Day both fall on Monday, February 15, 2027, opens on November 15 at midnight Mountain, and mid-March opens on December 13. The ski-trip dinner planning guide works the same sums for a whole itinerary.

Banff town

Lake Louise is a separate trip

Lake Louise is a village of its own up the valley, and the two hotels below set the rules. Treat a Lake Louise dinner as its own booking problem rather than a night out from Banff.

One Chateau quirk: the hotel sometimes limits its restaurants to overnight guests, as it did from October 26 to 29, 2026, so check its dining page before you drive up on a non-guest booking.

Canmore keeps its own hours

If you are staying in Canmore, book Canmore. After a day at Sunshine or Norquay, a table there saves you the late drive back from Banff after dinner, and änkôr’s November closure is over well before the holidays.

Full disclosure: SeatSwiper is my product. Everything in this guide works without it. The last section explains where it helps and exactly what it costs.

Watching a book that opened a year ago

When the date you want opened last winter, the only realistic path is a table someone gives back. SeatSwiper watches the Banff, Lake Louise or Canmore table you name, for your dates and party size, and books it the moment one opens, on your own OpenTable account, in your name (it also covers Resy and SevenRooms, which matter elsewhere but not here). Nothing is resold or transferred. Your first booking is free, then a flat $5, charged only when it actually books the table, no subscription, and a cancellation watch costs $1 to start, charged when the watch begins even if no table opens. It needs your OpenTable account connected, it can lose a race for one returned seat at Chef’s Stübli, and it cannot book the hotel lounges or pubs that seat without reservations.

FAQ

How far in advance can you book restaurants in Banff?

Often a full year. As of October 2026, 17 of the open Banff-area restaurants in this guide run OpenTable books about 365 days deep, including Chuck’s Steakhouse, Lupo, The Bison and the Post Hotel Dining Room. Another fifteen, such as Sky Bistro, Bridgette Bar and Hunter Steakhouse, run about 90 days, so the Saturday of the February long weekend opens for them on November 15 at midnight Mountain.

How do you get a table at Chef’s Stübli at the Post Hotel?

Book online early. The Post Hotel says Chef’s Stübli serves one six-course seating a night for 20 guests, Thursday to Saturday only, from November 12, 2026 to March 31, 2027, with a welcome cocktail at 5:30pm and dinner at 6:15pm. Its OpenTable book runs about 181 days, so the whole winter is already bookable; after that, the only way in is a returned seat.

Do you need a gondola ticket to eat at Sky Bistro in Banff?

Yes. Sky Bistro sits at the top of the Banff Gondola on Sulphur Mountain, and the operator says gondola admission is booked separately from the dinner reservation. Reservations open 90 days in advance on OpenTable, window seating is not guaranteed, and in winter you should dress warmly because the cabins are unheated.

Can non-guests eat at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise?

Usually, with a reservation. The hotel says visitors who are not staying need one for the Lakeview Lounge and for afternoon tea, which is booked through the Fairview listing on OpenTable, daily from 11:30am to 2:30pm. On some dates the hotel limits its restaurants to overnight guests, as it did from October 26 to 29, 2026, so check its dining page first.
