Thai Diner Reservations (NYC): Resy, One Week Out, Mostly Walk-Ins

George Yates · Founder, SeatSwiper · Updated October 31, 2026

How do you get a reservation at Thai Diner in NYC?Thai Diner, at 186 Mott Street in Nolita, books a small number of tables on Resy and keeps most of the room for walk-ins. Its Resy listing says reservations are taken up to one week in advance, which Resy’s September 2026 guide repeats; trackers AutoRes and Reservation Booker say 29 days. Without a booking, put your name down with the host, ideally on a weekday morning or around 4pm.

Thai Diner is the all-day Thai American restaurant at 186 Mott Street, on the corner of Kenmare in Nolita, from Ann Redding and Matt Danzer, the married chefs behind Uncle Boons, which closed in 2020. It opened in February 2020 and still has a wait most weekends more than six years later. The thing to understand about Thai Diner reservations is that there are not many of them. Most of the room is kept for people who walk in, the Resy book covers a small share of the tables, and the sources online cannot agree on how far ahead even that share opens. This guide covers what the restaurant and Resy say as of October 2026, how to settle the window yourself in one look, and when the door is the better bet.

Is Thai Diner on Resy?

Yes. The Reservations link on thaidiner.com opens Thai Diner’s Resy page, and the Michelin Guide listing says the same thing: book via Resy. There is no OpenTable or SevenRooms book. One small trap: the link on the restaurant’s site still carries a date from April 2026 in its address, so check the date at the top of the Resy page before you read anything into what it shows, and pick your own from the calendar.

The restaurant is plain about how little goes on Resy. The note on its Resy listing, as search engines show it in October 2026, calls it “primarily a walk-in based restaurant with limited reservations taken up to one week in advance.” Resy’s own guide to the city’s toughest tables, updated September 10, 2026, puts it more cheerfully: “Yes! Most of the room is saved for walk-ins.” An older reservations page on the restaurant’s site, which no longer loads, said the same and limited bookings to indoor seating; damnlines.com still quotes its line that most tables “are reserved for such,” meaning walk-ins.

Two things the search results get wrong. Several listings carry a 646 phone number, but the restaurant’s own site says, in capitals, “NO PHONE,” and gives hi@thaidiner.com as its only contact. And a site at thaidinernyc.online, which ranks for this exact search and offers phone bookings on a number with a New Zealand country code, is not the restaurant’s. The real site is thaidiner.com, and the real book is the Resy page it links to.

When do Thai Diner NYC reservations open? One week, or 29 days?

This is where the internet splits. On one side are the two sources closest to the restaurant: its own Resy note (“up to one week in advance”) and Resy’s September 2026 list, which gives the window as “One week in advance.” On the other are two booking trackers. AutoRes says Thai Diner releases tables 29 days ahead at 9am Eastern. Reservation Booker also says 29 days but puts the time at 12:00am. Neither the restaurant nor Resy publishes an hour at all.

The one-week figure is the better bet as of October 2026, because it is the restaurant’s own wording on its own listing and Resy repeated it six weeks ago. The 29-day number may be left over from an earlier policy, and the two trackers do not agree with each other on the minute anyway. One more data point, from Reservation Booker’s own Thai Diner page: in the past 60 days, 0% of its completed requests there were confirmed. Whatever the window is, the reservable part of this room is small.

You can settle it yourself in under a minute. Open the Resy page today, Saturday, October 31, and move the calendar forward until dates stop opening. If the last one is around Saturday, November 7, the window is a week. If it runs to around Sunday, November 29, the trackers are right. Then apply it to a real date. Say you want Saturday brunch on December 5, 2026. Under the one-week rule that date first appears around Saturday, November 28. Under the 29-day rule it would have appeared on Friday, November 6: at 9am by AutoRes’s account, or at midnight as Thursday the 5th turned into Friday by Reservation Booker’s. Because nobody official states the hour, look the night before your date should appear and again the next morning. Whichever look shows it first tells you the hour for every booking after that.

Does Thai Diner take walk-ins?

Yes, and for most people it is the plan rather than the fallback. With most of the room held back from Resy, the door is where the tables are. Go in, give your name to the host, and then leave for a while. The food blog Eating with Ziggy’s April 2024 survival guide put it as “come earlier, put your name down, and play tourist in NoLita/Little Italy/Chinatown.” Resy’s August 2025 profile of the restaurant said there often is a wait, but that during busier stretches the times the staff quote are, given the shops, cafés and benches nearby, “manageable.”

The same team has given you somewhere to spend that time. Mommy Pai’s, their takeout-only chicken finger counter at 203 Mott Street, opened in summer 2025, and Resy’s September 2026 list suggests stopping there while you wait for a table, with the warning that it may have a line too. As anywhere with a list, one or two people get seated sooner than six, and reservations.gg’s advice for walk-ins is to “arrive right at open or late, on a weeknight, as a small party.”

When is the wait at Thai Diner shortest?

Thai Diner keeps unusually long hours, which is the most useful fact on this page if you do not have a reservation. Per its own site as of October 2026: Monday to Wednesday 8:30am to 10:30pm, Thursday and Friday 8:30am to 11:30pm, Saturday 10am to 11:30pm and Sunday 10am to 10:30pm. No afternoon break is listed, and the Michelin Guide notes that breakfast runs all day, so the hour you arrive does not decide what you can order.

That spreads the crowd in a predictable way. Weekend brunch, from the 10am open into the early afternoon, is the hardest stretch of the week; damnlines.com calls it the busiest, and reservations.gg calls weekend brunch “one of its busiest seatings.” Weekday mornings are the opposite: Resy’s 2025 profile said the wait is rare then, and the 8:30am weekday open is two hours before the weekend crowd can even start. The other gap is late afternoon, between lunch and dinner. Eating with Ziggy’s line is the one to remember: “Even on Sundays there was no line at 4.” On Thursday and Friday the doors stay open until 11:30pm, which makes a late weeknight arrival the dinner version of the same idea.

Party size, fees and the fine print

As of October 2026, thaidiner.com does not publish a maximum party size, a deposit or a cancellation fee, and this guide could not confirm any from Resy. The Reservations link opens Resy set to two people, which is also the shape that clears a walk-in list fastest. Read the cancellation terms on the Resy screen before you confirm, because that screen is the only place the current terms will be. For a large group, the only contact the restaurant lists is hi@thaidiner.com; there is no phone line to call, whatever the listing sites say.

What to order once you are in

Resy’s September 2026 list gives the must-orders by meal. For breakfast, the Thai tea elephant ear French toast and the roti-wrapped egg sandwich. For dinner, the Uncle Boons crab fried rice, crispy red snapper, khao soi and a Guava Sour. The Michelin Guide, which gives Thai Diner a Bib Gourmand, steers you past the Americanized standbys toward the laab made with fried rather than ground chicken, and the turkey and mushroom stuffed cabbage in a fragrant broth. The Infatuation, rating it 9.6 back in January 2022, said “the entire menu is flawless” and singled out the Thai disco fries in massaman curry. Since breakfast runs all day, the 4pm walk-in can still end in French toast.

Cancellations, and why the book is thin

If you do want a reservation, cancellations matter as much as the release. On a short book, people cancel inside the final week as plans firm up, and a returned table goes back onto the same Resy calendar for whoever confirms first, usually in the last day or two before the date; reservations.gg’s advice is to watch the final 48 hours. Resy’s Notify button alerts everyone waiting on that date at once, so the alert often lands after the table has gone. Keep the scale in mind, though. When most of the room is held for the door, there are only so many tables to cancel.

For other hard rooms that keep a door open, see NYC hard restaurants that take walk-ins. Another Thai room with a much longer Resy book is Bangkok Supper Club in the West Village. If you end up wandering Nolita while your name is on the list, Rubirosa on Mulberry Street keeps space for walk-ins too, and the hardest restaurants to book in NYC guide shows where Thai Diner sits against the rest of the city.

Full disclosure: SeatSwiper is my product. Everything in this guide works without it. The last section explains where it helps and exactly what it costs.

Watching Thai Diner’s Resy page

The Resy part of Thai Diner is small, but it is the part a watch can help with: the moment a new date opens, whichever hour that turns out to be, and the unscheduled minute when someone gives back a Saturday brunch table. SeatSwiper watches Resy, SevenRooms and OpenTable, and Thai Diner books on Resy, so one watch covers both the release and the cancellations. Give it your dates and party size, set it once and walk away; it books the table the moment one opens or someone cancels. It books on your own Resy account, in your name, for your own meal, and nothing is resold or transferred. It can’t get your account banned, because it books on your own account and checks every few minutes, never nonstop. The first booking is free. After that it is a flat $5, charged only when it actually books the table, with no subscription. A cancellation watch on a date that is already full costs $1 to start, charged when the watch begins even if no table ever opens; that $1 is not covered by the free first booking and is not refunded, and the same $5 applies if the watch wins you the table. The honest limits matter more here than at most restaurants: it only works on those three platforms, it needs your Resy login to book in your name, it can lose a race for a single table, and it cannot put your name down with the host on Mott Street. Since most of Thai Diner’s room is held for walk-ins, the door is still the main way in.

FAQ

Does Thai Diner take reservations?

Yes, on Resy, but only a few. The restaurant’s Resy listing calls it primarily a walk-in based restaurant with limited reservations taken up to one week in advance, and Resy’s September 2026 guide says most of the room is saved for walk-ins. Its site says it has no phone, and hi@thaidiner.com is its only listed contact, so Resy is the only way to book as of October 2026.

How far ahead do Thai Diner reservations open?

Sources disagree. The restaurant’s Resy listing and Resy’s own guide (updated September 10, 2026) both say one week in advance. The trackers AutoRes and Reservation Booker say 29 days, at 9am and at midnight respectively, and the restaurant publishes no hour. Settle it once: open Resy, move the calendar forward to the last selectable date and count from today.

Does Thai Diner take walk-ins?

Yes, walk-ins are most of the room. Give your name to the host and explore the neighborhood while you wait. Weekend brunch from the 10am open is the busiest stretch. Resy said in 2025 that weekday mornings, from the 8:30am open, rarely have a wait, and one 2024 guide found no line at 4pm even on Sundays. Come as one or two for the shortest wait.

Can SeatSwiper get me a table at Thai Diner?

It can watch the Resy part of the book, because Thai Diner books on Resy, one of the three platforms SeatSwiper watches along with SevenRooms and OpenTable. Set your dates and party size once and it books on your own Resy account the moment a table opens or someone cancels. It needs your Resy login, can lose a race for a single table, and cannot put your name on the walk-in list, which is most of the room.
