Watch Overstory for meOverstory is the cocktail bar on the 64th floor of 70 Pine Street in the Financial District, one floor above SAGA and 63 floors above Crown Shy, all three from Kent Hospitality Group. It opened in August 2021, and in 2026 it ranked No. 33 on North America’s 50 Best Bars. It is a small oval room with a wraparound terrace and the whole skyline around it, and its few online tables go quickly. (If you searched from Minnesota, the Overstory in Duluth is a different place, and so is the rooftop bar of the same name at a Westin outside Atlanta.) This guide covers how the New York bar books as of November 2026: Resy, the 14-day calendar, the party sizes, the $25 fee, and the walk-in door that most of its seats depend on.
Resy, but most seats are not on it
Overstory books on Resy; the Reserve button on overstory-nyc.com goes straight to its Resy page. The first line of that Resy page’s Need to Know box is the most useful sentence about this bar: “Most seating at Overstory is reserved for walk-ins.” The room is tiny, and sources disagree on exactly how tiny. Resy’s description calls it “a 24-seat cocktail bar,” while the 50 Best write-up says it has “only 28 seats indoors.” Either way, the online book is a slice of a slice, and the bar holds the rest back for people who show up. That shapes everything below: the reservation is the hard way in, and the door is the normal one.

Watch Overstory for meWhen do Overstory reservations open? 14 days out
Overstory does not publish a booking window or a release hour, on its site or on Resy. The calendar answers the first part. Late on Sunday, November 1, Resy’s date picker for Overstory ran through Sunday, November 15, and every date after that was still locked. That is today plus 14 days, which matches what the tracker itsadate reported in July: “Resy’s visible calendar includes today and dates through 14 days ahead.” The hour is the open question. Neither the bar nor Resy states it, itsadate says no exact time is published, and the tracker TablePass says Overstory “does not consistently release reservations at a set time.” It is not midnight: at 12:02am on Monday, November 2, the next date due, Monday, November 16, was still locked, with Resy showing “At the moment, there’s no online availability.” So each new date arrives at some point during the day, 14 days ahead.
A worked example. You want drinks on Friday, December 4, 2026. Count back 14 days and you land on Friday, November 20. Because the hour is unpublished and not midnight, check that morning, again around midday and once more in the evening. TablePass also says most of the Overstory availability it catches appears within three days of the date, so the week of December 1 is the second window to watch. Have your Resy account signed in with a card on file and your party size set before you look, because a bar this small puts few tables online. The general mechanics of Resy windows are in when Resy reservations open.
What the calendar looked like on November 1
For two people, every released date I checked was gone. Tuesday the 3rd, Thursday the 5th and Tuesday the 10th read as sold out, and Saturday the 14th and Sunday the 15th, the two newest dates, both showed “Sorry, we don’t currently have any tables available for 2.” Monday, November 9 and Friday, November 13 were marked closed outright; the site warns that hours “may occasionally change due to private events.” A party of four on November 15 found nothing either. So the realistic reading is that Overstory’s online tables are few and go soon after they appear: on November 1, not one released date had a table left. A full Resy calendar here is not the end of the night. It is the normal state of the reservation side of a bar that keeps most of its seats for the door. If you still want a booking, Resy’s Notify button works on any sold-out date, but read why Resy Notify rarely wins a table first.
Party sizes, the 15-minute hold and the $25 fee
The site says “We accept reservations for parties of 2 to 6 guests.” Groups of 7 to 14 go to the events team at events@saga-nyc.com, per Resy, and a full private event inside holds 60 standing in 588 square feet. Two rules come straight from the restaurant’s reservations section, word for word: “Reservations are held for up to 15 minutes before they are subject to cancellation. There is a $25 per person cancellation fee if cancelled after 6 hours of booking.” The 15 minutes matters more than it sounds, because the trip up involves a greeting in the lobby, a dedicated elevator to the 63rd floor and a travertine stair to the 64th. Leave time for it. The fee wording is less clear: read it as $25 a head if you cancel late, and check the exact terms Resy shows you at checkout, which are the ones you agree to. Trackers have reported minimum spends on outdoor terrace tables in warmer months, $100 per guest according to itsadate in July and $75 according to damnlines; I could not reach a checkout screen in November because every date was full, so treat any minimum as unconfirmed until Resy shows it to you.
Does Overstory take walk-ins?
Yes, and it wants them. The website’s walk-in policy reads: “We welcome walk-in guests, subject to availability. Please note that we are unable to accommodate walk-in parties larger than six guests.” Resy adds that walk-ins are “accepted (and encouraged) for seats both indoors and outdoors and are accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis,” for parties of one to six. There is no published wait time and no waitlist app to join from home. You are greeted in the 70 Pine lobby, taken up, and seated if there is room. Everyone must be 21 or over, and the dress rule is light: the bar says it does not enforce a strict code but considers “tank tops, flip flops, and athletic attire too casual.” How other hard rooms handle the door is in NYC hard restaurants that take walk-ins.
Best times to go
The hours, per the site: Monday to Wednesday 5pm to midnight, Thursday to Saturday 4pm to midnight, Sunday 4pm to 11pm, with the kitchen closing at 11pm (10pm on Sunday). Some tracker listings still show later closing times; go by the site, and by the bar’s Instagram, which it names as the place for changes. The sensible walk-in plan is to arrive at opening, as one to four people, on a weeknight. Thursday to Sunday open an hour earlier, at 4pm, which in November puts you upstairs before sunset. Keep the group small: walk-in parties over six are turned away, and two or three people are easier to fit into a room this size than five or six. Before you go on any given night, glance at Instagram for a private event, since two closed nights, a Monday and a Friday, turned up in the November calendar.
What is on the menu
The current list on the site runs to about a dozen cocktails, among them the Pink Tuxedo (vodka, cherry blossom, vermouth, strawberry, absinthe), the Terroir Old Fashioned with reposado tequila and palo santo, and In The Clouds (whiskey, Earl Grey, vanilla, Champagne, clarified milk), plus a “No Buzz” list of four zero-proof drinks. Resy’s older blurb describes a Pink Tuxedo with beet and chocolate, so recipes change. The food is a short bar menu, not dinner: a lobster roll, a hamachi hand roll, fried chicken with cornbread, a truffle grilled cheese, and a Hazelnut Rocher ice cream bar. The drinks program also lost its founding lead this year: The Spirits Business reported on August 5, 2026 that Harrison Ginsberg, in charge of the drinks since Overstory opened, had left Kent Hospitality Group.
If Overstory is full
You are already in the building with two of the group’s restaurants. Crown Shy, on the ground floor, books a longer Resy window and keeps bar seats for walk-ins; the details are in book ahead at Crown Shy. For another high-floor view a few blocks away, Manhatta sits on the 60th floor of 28 Liberty Street; see book ahead at Manhatta. And the hardest restaurants to book in NYC guide maps the rest of the city’s difficult tables.
Watching Overstory’s Resy calendar
With a 14-day window, an unpublished release hour and few online tables, the honest way to get an Overstory reservation is to be on its Resy page at the moment one appears, either when a new date opens or when someone gives one back. SeatSwiper watches Resy, SevenRooms and OpenTable, and Overstory books on Resy. Set your date and party size once and it books the table the moment one opens or someone cancels, on your own Resy account, in your name, and nothing is resold or transferred. It can’t get your account banned, because it books on your own account and checks every few minutes, never nonstop. The first booking is free. After that it is a flat $5, charged only when it actually books the table, with no subscription. A cancellation watch on a date that is already full costs $1 to start, charged when the watch begins even if no table ever opens; that $1 is not covered by the free first booking and is not refunded, and the same $5 applies if the watch wins you the table. The honest limits: it only works on those three platforms, it needs your Resy login to book in your name, Overstory’s own fee and any minimum Resy shows still apply, it can lose a race for a single table, and most of this bar’s seats never go online at all, so it cannot hold your place at the door.
FAQ
How far ahead can you book Overstory?
Fourteen days ahead. On the night of November 1, 2026, Overstory’s Resy calendar ran through November 15 and later dates were locked. Neither the bar nor Resy publishes a release hour, and it is not midnight: November 16 was still locked at 12:02am on November 2. For Friday, December 4, start checking Resy on Friday, November 20. Most seats are kept for walk-ins anyway.
Does Overstory take walk-ins?
Yes, and most of its seats are kept for them. Its website says, “We welcome walk-in guests, subject to availability,” but it cannot take walk-in parties larger than six. Resy adds that walk-ins are first come, first served, indoors and on the terrace. Arrive at opening, 4pm Thursday to Sunday or 5pm Monday to Wednesday, with a small group. Everyone must be 21 or over.
What is Overstory’s cancellation policy?
Its website, as of November 2026, says: “Reservations are held for up to 15 minutes before they are subject to cancellation. There is a $25 per person cancellation fee if cancelled after 6 hours of booking.” Online reservations are for two to six people; groups of 7 to 14 email events@saga-nyc.com. Check the exact terms Resy shows at checkout, and any minimum spend, before you confirm.
Is Overstory a rooftop bar?
Close to it. Overstory is a small cocktail bar on the 64th floor of 70 Pine Street in the Financial District, one floor above SAGA, wrapped by an outdoor terrace with 360-degree views. You reach it through the building’s lobby, a dedicated elevator to the 63rd floor and a stair. It books on Resy, and walk-ins are welcome for indoor and terrace seats.
