The room is small, it serves dinner and nothing else, and it holds a 4.9 rating across more than 7,600 Resy reviews. Which is why a search for a table on a random Tuesday three weeks out turns up nothing.

How booking Theodora actually works

Theodora books on Resy, and only on Resy. The restaurant spells the rule out on its own listing: reservations are available 30 days in advance at 9 am, and at this time they are only booking parties of 2 to 6 through the platform. Both halves matter. The 30 days is a rolling window, so exactly one new date enters range each morning rather than a whole month opening at once. And 9am is an hour earlier than the 10am most New York Resy rooms use, which quietly catches anyone assuming every opening in this city happens at the same time.

Party size is the second filter, and it wastes the most mornings. If your group is 7 or larger, Resy will never show you anything at any hour, because Theodora handles those bookings off the platform: a family style chef’s menu for roughly 7 to 14 guests, arranged four to six weeks ahead by emailing info@theodoranyc.com. Anything bigger needs a partial or full buyout. Worth knowing before you set three alarms for a calendar that was never going to hold a table for eight.

One more detail shapes what you actually win. Each Theodora reservation is tagged chef’s counter, bar, or table, all indoors, and the restaurant guarantees only the original time, party size, and seat type. Why the table is so hard to get

The arithmetic is simple and unkind. Theodora serves dinner only, 5pm to 10pm, seven days a week, out of one small dining room, and that is the entire weekly supply. Demand arrives from every direction: Miss Ada regulars who followed Blechman across the neighborhood, Manhattan diners treating it as the Brooklyn reservation worth the train, and the natural wine crowd that found it through Resy’s Brooklyn and staff pick collections.

Here is what that looks like in practice. Checking every night from August 31 through September 28 for two guests, on August 29, returned zero open slots. Not a thin calendar, an empty one, across the whole rolling window. When a room sells out that completely, the 9am opening is not one option among several. It is the only scheduled moment inventory exists, and everything else is scavenging.

One further squeeze most people never notice: Theodora sets aside tables for American Express Global Dining Access members. That is a standard Resy arrangement, but it does mean the pool the public races for at 9am is smaller than the room.

The off-peak and back-door angles

If your date is welded to a specific Saturday, the front door is genuinely brutal. If you can flex at all, Theodora leaves more doors open than most rooms this hard:

• The bar is a real walk-in option. Theodora saves some bar seats for walk-in parties and says the bar is full service, held for dining rather than drinks only. • Take a weeknight, and take the edges. The kitchen runs 5pm to 10pm every day, so a Monday or Tuesday is genuinely calmer than a Friday, and the 5pm open or the last turn near closing is the least contested slot. Those are what survive a few minutes past 9am.

When cancelled tables come back

Theodora is unusually readable here, because it publishes its exact deadlines instead of leaving you to guess. Reservations may be charged a cancellation fee for no-shows, for shrinking the guest count, or for cancelling late. Parties of 2 to 3 have until 12:15pm on the day of the reservation. Parties of 4 or more must give 24 hours notice.

Read those two numbers as a timetable, because that is what they are. Anyone holding a two top who cannot make it has a financial reason to release it before 12:15pm that day, so the late morning of your target date is the richest stretch for a returned table for two. For a four top the pressure lands about 24 hours out, the evening before. Seats still come loose at odd hours, but those two cutoffs are what you can plan a day around.
