How to Get a Reservation at Somni in West Hollywood
George Yates · Founder, SeatSwiper · Updated September 10, 2026
Somni means dream in Catalan, and Aitor Zabala has now built it twice. The first version opened inside the SLS Beverly Hills in 2018 with José Andrés, earned two Michelin stars, and closed in August 2020 when the city shut down. The second opened on 24 November 2024 at 9045 Nemo Street in West Hollywood, a courtyard address just off Santa Monica Boulevard, and seven months later it was awarded three Michelin stars, a rating it kept in the June 2026 California guide. What sits behind that is fourteen seats at a communal wooden counter, one seating a night, Wednesday through Sunday. That is the entire supply, worldwide. Here is how the booking genuinely works, checked against the restaurant’s own site and FAQ in September 2026.
Fourteen seats, one seating, five nights a week
Start with the arithmetic, because it explains everything else. Fourteen stools, roughly twenty or twenty-one service nights in a month, and a single 7:30pm start with no second turn. That is somewhere under three hundred seats a month for a restaurant that half the food world would like to eat at. There is no bar, no lounge, no counter held back for people who walk up hopefully at six. For nearly every other hard room in this city the reservation is one door of several. Here it is the only door, which is why the timing below matters more than it would anywhere else. What you are booking is a tasting menu of twenty-plus courses running about two to two and a half hours, priced at $495 a guest before tax, service and beverages per the restaurant’s FAQ. The evening opens with a few bites out in the patio, weather permitting, before you move to the counter and watch Zabala and his team work at arm’s length. The dishes people come back talking about are the mussel escabeche, a gazpacho blanco taken apart and rebuilt, dry-aged Spanish turbot in a collagen-rich consommé, and a sardine tart plated in the shape of the fish.
The whole month goes on sale in one afternoon
Somni does not run a rolling daily calendar where a new date quietly appears each morning. Its own FAQ says reservations are released one month in advance, and in practice that has meant a single synchronized opening: the first weekday of each month at 1pm Pacific, with the whole following month posted at once, as reported by The Infatuation and consistent with Resy’s own write-up that seats are released at the top of each month. The counter books on Resy, which is where the restaurant’s own Make a reservation button points. The wording across the venue’s pages has shifted more than once, and the site also sends the private room to OpenTable, so confirm the current terms on the listing itself before you build a month around them.
Strategically this is the opposite of a daily habit. There is nothing useful to check on a Tuesday morning. There is one afternoon, and if you are not in the queue at 1pm you are waiting until next month or chasing a returned seat. So treat the opening like a ticket on-sale. Be logged in beforehand with a card saved and your party size already chosen, and rank three or four acceptable dates in advance, because 7:30pm is the only time and the variable you actually get to trade is which night. If you want the wider picture of how LA’s monthly counters stack up against its seven-day rooms and its sixty-day rooms, that is in the hardest restaurants to book in Los Angeles, and Sushi Kaneyoshi runs the closest thing to the same rhythm a couple of hours later in the day.
The seven-day refund deadline is your best second chance
This is the mechanic that makes Somni different from every other room on the LA list, and it comes straight from the restaurant’s own cancellation terms. The seat is prepaid. A full refund is available up to seven days ahead of your reservation time, and after that the booking becomes non-refundable, with the deposit unable to move to another date. Guests can hand a reservation to a different person if an emergency stops them attending, but they cannot slide it to another night.
A hard, dated financial deadline changes when people give seats back. In a room with free cancellation, returns trickle out at random hours right up to service. Here, anyone whose travel plans have wobbled has exactly one moment where acting is free, and that moment is just before the seven-day mark. So the band worth watching on your target date is the stretch between eight and seven days out, when the refundable window closes and the uncertain bookings get released. There is a second, thinner band in the final day or two, when someone writes off the money rather than the trip, but it is far less reliable. Alongside that, do the free thing: the restaurant says it keeps a waitlist and will reach out promptly if a vacancy opens, so put your name on it. The general logic of how deposits and deadlines shape a restaurant’s cancellation pattern is in our guide to restaurant cancellation policies.
Party size, the Cellar, and the door most people miss
The counter takes parties of two and four, and nothing else online. If you are one, three, or five, the FAQ asks you to write to info@somnirestaurant.com rather than book. That grid is worth reading as strategy, not admin. A four ties up nearly a third of the room, so twos exist in far greater number and come back far more often when someone cancels. If your night is flexible on numbers, search as a two.
The side door is the Cellar. Somni’s private dining room sits beside the wine cellar, seats up to six, starts at 5:30pm rather than 7:30, serves the same twenty-plus course menu, and the room is yours for the evening. It books through OpenTable or by email, which is a separate and noticeably less contested line than the counter, and it is the obvious answer for a group of five or six who would otherwise have no way in at all. A few practical things to know before you commit, since this is a prepaid ticket rather than a table you can rearrange later. The kitchen states plainly that it cannot accommodate allergies or dietary restrictions, because of how the menu is built. The dress code is business casual, with jeans, athletic wear, t-shirts, shorts and flip flops asked to stay home. Guests under twelve are asked to sit this one out. Valet is complimentary, there is street parking around Nemo, corkage is $150 per 750ml bottle with a two-bottle maximum, and two wine pairings are offered alongside the list. Automating the watch
Every route above reduces to being present at an exact moment. Either you are on Resy at 1pm Pacific on the first weekday of the month while a few hundred seats are claimed, or you are looking at your date during the unpredictable hour, eight days out, when someone takes their refund and a stool comes back. Neither is a job for a person refreshing a page. SeatSwiper watches the exact seat you want, your date range and party size, on Resy, SevenRooms and OpenTable around the clock, and books it the instant one appears. It books on your own account with the platform, in your own name, for your own dinner. Nothing is resold or transferred. Set it once and get on with your week. The first booking is free, then it is a flat $5 and only when it actually books you the table, with no subscription; if you want it standing watch on a specific sold-out night for a cancellation, starting that watch costs $1. Two honest limits, said plainly: it works on Resy, SevenRooms and OpenTable only, and on a fourteen-seat counter it can lose a race for a single seat, so it is a much better watcher than any human but never a guarantee. The Cellar room and the house waitlist remain the two routes that do not depend on winning a race at all.
FAQ
When do Somni reservations open each month?
The restaurant’s FAQ says reservations are released one month in advance, and in practice that has been a single synchronized opening on the first weekday of each month at 1pm Pacific, with the whole following month posted at once. Resy’s own write-up describes seats being released at the top of each month. Confirm the current terms on the venue’s listing, since the wording on its pages has changed more than once.
What platform does Somni use for reservations?
The chef’s counter books on Resy, which is where the restaurant’s own Make a reservation button points. The private Cellar dining room is booked separately, through OpenTable or by emailing info@somnirestaurant.com.
Does Somni take walk-ins?
No. There are fourteen seats at one communal counter and a single 7:30pm seating, Wednesday through Sunday, with no bar or lounge held back. The reservation is the only way in, which is unusual for a hard Los Angeles room.
What is Somni’s cancellation policy?
The seat is prepaid. A full refund is available up to seven days ahead of your reservation time, after which the booking is non-refundable and the deposit cannot be moved to another date. A reservation can be handed to a different guest in an emergency, but not slid to another night.
How much does Somni cost and what are the party size limits?
The chef’s counter is $495 per guest before tax, service and beverages, for a tasting menu of twenty-plus courses running roughly two to two and a half hours. The counter takes parties of two and four online; the private Cellar room seats up to six at 5:30pm, and any other party size is arranged by email.
