Resy Reservations in ChatGPT: What Works and What Does Not

It books in your name the moment a table opens or someone cancels. First booking free.
Try it on one tableResy has been bookable from inside ChatGPT since 10 August 2026, when OpenAI turned on Resy, OpenTable and Yelp together. You describe the dinner in the chat, ChatGPT returns Resy times that are genuinely live, and confirming there creates an ordinary reservation on your Resy profile. Three boundaries are documented and worth knowing before you lean on it: the Resy path is US-only, waitlists route through Yelp rather than Resy, and you cannot edit or cancel the booking inside the conversation. How the booking flow runs, step by step
Nothing here requires a developer account or a special mode. The sequence is short:
- Ask in plain language, the way you would text someone: a party size, a neighborhood or a named restaurant, a date, and a rough time. Naming the restaurant gets you there fastest.
- ChatGPT queries Resy and shows the slots the venue currently has on sale. These are the same times the Resy app would show you at that second, in the same ranked order the venue configured.
- The first time through, you link your Resy account so the reservation has somewhere to land. Subsequent bookings reuse that link.
- You pick a time and confirm. Resy sends its usual confirmation, the venue sees a standard Resy cover, and any deposit or card hold the restaurant runs applies exactly as it would in the app.
The reservation is yours in every sense that matters: your name on the book, your Resy history credited, your cancellation window. The OpenTable half of the same launch behaves differently in a few places and is covered separately in the OpenTable and ChatGPT guide.

Try it on one tableWhich limits are real, and which are rumors
Three restrictions came straight from the launch materials, and they explain most of the complaints people post afterward.
- The Resy path is US-only. Asking from London or Toronto will not surface Resy inventory even for a restaurant that plainly uses Resy. This is the single most common source of "it does not work for me".
- Waitlists come from Yelp, not Resy. If ChatGPT offers to put you on a list, that is the Yelp waitlist product. Resy's own alert tool is a different thing entirely, explained in the Priority Notify breakdown, and it is not what the chat is enrolling you in.
- No edits inside the chat. Moving a 7:15 to an 8:45, dropping a guest, or canceling has to happen back in Resy. Practically, that means the confirmation email and the app remain your control panel; the steps are in changing or canceling a Resy reservation. Miss the venue's window and the usual fee applies, because ChatGPT never took ownership of the booking in the first place.
Does it reach Amex Global Dining Access tables?
No, and be skeptical of anyone claiming otherwise. Global Dining Access inventory is cardholder-only, and Resy releases it against an eligible American Express card added under your Resy profile in Payment Methods. That is a property of your Resy account, not of the surface you booked from, so an assistant reading your account sees whatever your enrollment entitles you to and nothing extra. Amex Platinum carries up to 400 dollars a year in Resy credits against a 695 dollar annual fee, with Priority Notify bundled in; the trade-offs across the cards are laid out in the credit card reservation perks comparison. Chat is a different doorway into the same house, not a key to a different house.
What about the Tock restaurants that moved onto Resy?
Timing made this confusing. Tock's restaurants went live on Resy on 11 August 2026, one day after the ChatGPT launch, as Amex began retiring Tock's consumer app and site while keeping the restaurant software running inside Resy. Resy Credit was extended to those venues from 15 September 2026, and the combined network is reported at more than 25,000 restaurants. Practically: a venue whose book has already migrated behaves like any other Resy venue in chat, and one still on exploretock.com does not appear at all. The migration is in progress rather than finished, so check the venue rather than assuming, and see Tock compared with Resy for the differences that survive the move.
What happens when the restaurant you want is full
You get a courteous nothing, plus suggestions. ChatGPT is reading the same Resy book the app reads, so a room that sold out its month at a 10am opening returns zero slots no matter how the request is phrased. Rephrasing, asking twice, or insisting will not change it. The release mechanics behind that emptiness are in why Resy tables open at 10am. Seats at those rooms do come back, but they come back at unannounced moments, and a chat session that ends when it answers you is never running when they do.
Covering the hours the conversation is not open
That last gap is the job SeatSwiper takes. Tell it the venue, the nights that work and how many of you there are, and it stays on the book on Resy, SevenRooms or OpenTable until something changes, then books through your own connected account under your own name. Nothing is resold or transferred; it is the reservation you would have made yourself with better timing. The price list has four lines and all four belong in the open: your first booking is free; later ones cost a flat five dollars, charged only when a seat is actually won; there is no monthly fee; and starting a cancellation watch costs one dollar at the moment the watch begins, whether or not a table ever opens, with the free first booking not covering that dollar. Be clear on what it is not: it reads three platforms, so a Tock-only venue or a restaurant running its own system is outside its reach, it needs your account connected, it has no approval or endorsement from Resy, and a seat wanted by fifty people can still go to one of the other forty-nine.
FAQ
Why does ChatGPT not show Resy times for my restaurant?
The most common cause is location: the Resy path in ChatGPT is US-only, so a query from the UK or Canada will not surface Resy inventory even for a venue that clearly uses Resy. The second cause is a genuinely empty book. The third is a Tock venue whose listing has not yet migrated onto Resy.
Can I cancel a ChatGPT booking inside the chat?
No. Changes and cancellations go back to Resy, through the confirmation email or the app, which remain your control panel for the reservation. ChatGPT created the booking but does not administer it afterward. If you miss the venue’s cancellation window, the restaurant’s usual fee applies exactly as it would for any other Resy booking.
Does booking through ChatGPT unlock Amex Global Dining Access tables?
No. Global Dining Access inventory is cardholder-only and is released against an eligible American Express card added under Payment Methods in your Resy profile. It is a property of your Resy account rather than the surface you booked from, so an assistant sees exactly what your own enrollment entitles you to and nothing more.
Are Tock restaurants bookable through ChatGPT now?
Only once their book has moved. Tock’s restaurants went live on Resy on 11 August 2026 and Amex is retiring Tock’s consumer app and site while keeping the restaurant software inside Resy. A migrated venue behaves like any other Resy listing in chat; one still on exploretock.com does not appear at all.
