Mi Tocaya Reservations: How to Get a Table in Chicago

Mi Tocaya Antojería is Diana Dávila’s Mexican room at 2800 W Logan Blvd, on the corner of Logan Boulevard and California in Logan Square. Dávila is a James Beard nominated chef, and the menu reads like a family record rather than a Chicago greatest hits list: enchiladas potosinas, the namesake dish of San Luis Potosí where her family still lives, stuffed with queso enchilado and scooped through lump crab in salsa verde. The average check runs around $50 and the Resy listing carries roughly 6,500 ratings averaging 4.8. Cheap enough to be a regular Tuesday, acclaimed enough that everyone wants the same 7pm Friday. That is the whole reason a Mi Tocaya reservation is annoying to get.

How booking Mi Tocaya actually works

Mi Tocaya takes reservations on Resy, not OpenTable or SevenRooms, and the Booking page on the restaurant’s own site drops you into the Resy widget for the venue. The calendar is rolling and roughly 90 days deep. Checked on 29 August 2026, the furthest bookable date was 26 November, which is 89 days out, and the day after that returned nothing at all. There is no synchronized 10am scramble to survive. A new date slides into range every morning, and it arrives essentially empty.

Two rules shape what you can book yourself. First, online booking is limited to parties of two through seven. Resy’s venue message says the restaurant only allows parties of seven or less to book online, and the minimum is two, so a solo diner cannot finish a booking in the app either. Second, parties of eight or more go through the restaurant, not the platform. Email info@mitocaya.com or call 872-315-3947 during business hours, and plan around a $65 per person food and beverage minimum on a family style chef’s choice menu, before tax, tip and fees.

Every reservation, at any size, holds a credit card on file. There is no prepaid deposit and no ticket to buy, so the card exists purely to back the cancellation fee described below. Budget separately for the 3% health insurance fee added to every check, plus an automatic 20% gratuity on parties of six or more.

Why the table is so hard to get

The scarcity here is not spread evenly across the calendar, and that is the single most useful thing to understand about this room. Three weeks out and further, the book is close to wide open. Inside two weeks, it collapses.

Checked live on 29 August 2026, Friday 20 November showed 63 bookable slots, the complete grid in fifteen minute steps from 5:00pm to 10:00pm across every seating type. Friday 16 October showed the same 63. Friday 18 September, twenty days out, was down to 38 slots but still held every prime time from 6:30pm to 8:45pm. Then it falls off a cliff. Friday 11 September had 12 slots: one at 5:00pm, then nothing until 8:30pm. Friday 4 September had 8, the earliest at 9:15pm. Saturday 5 September had 13, earliest 8:45pm. Sunday 6 September had exactly one bookable time all night, 9:00pm.

So the prime band is not rationed in a rush the morning a date opens. It gets eaten steadily over the final fortnight. The dining room is small, the kitchen runs dinner only with no lunch service, it is dark on Mondays, and Logan Square pulls people from across the city, so two weeks of demand is more than the seat count absorbs. Party size compounds it fast: on Saturday 19 September a two top had eleven different times starting at 5:00pm, a four top had eight starting at 8:15pm, and a six top had one option in the whole evening, 10:00pm.

The off-peak and back-door angles

If your date is locked to this Friday, the front door is genuinely bad. If you have any slack at all, this restaurant rewards it more than most:

• Book three weeks out, not three days out. The highest leverage move here, and almost nobody uses it. The 90 day window means a Friday seven weeks from now is usually still showing a full 5:00pm to 10:00pm grid, no strategy required. Moving your date further away beats every refresh trick. • Check all three seating types. Resy sells Dining Room, high top tables and kitchen counter as separate inventory here, and they do not sell down in lockstep. On Saturday 19 September the earliest four top anywhere was 8:15pm at a high top, while the dining room started at 8:30pm. On Friday 11 September the counter carried only late times and the dining room ran from 8:30pm. Which one is loosest changes night to night.
• Take the late seating. Last seating is 10:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and those slots survive when everything else is gone.
• Try Sunday, and ask about walking in. Sunday is the short night, 5:00pm to 9:00pm. It is also the only day Resy’s calendar flags walk-in inventory for this venue. The restaurant does not publish a walk-in policy on its own site, so treat that as worth a phone call rather than a promise. Here is how walk-ins tend to work at hard tables.
• Split the group. When a six top has one option all night and a two top has eleven, two small reservations is the difference between dinner and no dinner.

When cancelled tables come back

The card on file is exactly what makes returns here predictable. Resy enforces a $25 cancellation fee with a six hour cutoff on standard tables. Cancel, or change your party size, more than six hours before your seating and you pay nothing. Do it inside six hours and the charge lands. The restaurant’s large party policy is stricter still, asking a minimum of 24 hours notice with the same $25 per guest charge.

A six hour cutoff produces a very specific rhythm. Anyone wobbling on a Friday 8:00pm has a hard financial reason to release it by 2:00pm that afternoon, and plenty do it at the last responsible minute. So the richest window for a returned Mi Tocaya table is the afternoon of your date, roughly six to twelve hours before service, with a thinner earlier wave 24 to 48 hours out as weekend plans firm up. Reading the shape of a restaurant’s cancellation policy is most of what tells you when to look.

The catch is the obvious one. A returned 7:30pm two top in a room this loved does not sit there waiting. It is gone in minutes, and the afternoon it is most likely to surface is an afternoon you are in meetings.
