Book Ahead at sketch, Mayfair London

sketch is not one restaurant. It is five rooms behind one door at 9 Conduit Street, in the Mayfair townhouse that Mourad Mazouz and Pierre Gagnaire turned into equal parts dining room and exhibition. There is the Gallery, the brasserie whose walls get photographed before anyone opens a menu; the Lecture Room and Library upstairs, which holds three Michelin stars; the Glade and the Parlour on the ground floor; and the East Bar, with the egg shaped pods that half of London has been photographed standing inside. So the booking question here is never really whether you can get into sketch. It is which sketch, on which date, and how early you have to decide. This guide, written in September 2026, answers all three.

Start with the reassuring part. Checked two days ahead of a Saturday in September, the only dinner time in the Gallery that had gone for a party of four was eight o’clock exactly. Everything else between 17:30 and 22:00, in fifteen minute steps, was still sitting there to be clicked. This is a famous room that is genuinely winnable, and the whole point of planning it early is not to beat anybody. It is so that the date stops being something you have to think about.

Five rooms, and only some of them are a click

Every sketch room takes bookings through SevenRooms, reached from the Book buttons on sketch.london, but they sit on separate calendars that behave differently, and picking the wrong one is the most common way people conclude the place is full when it is not.

• The Gallery is the main event and the one most people mean. It serves afternoon tea from 12:00 to 16:00 Monday to Thursday and 11:00 to 16:30 Friday to Sunday, then dinner from 17:30, until 21:00 Sunday to Thursday and 22:00 on Friday and Saturday. Instant confirmation, longest calendar, most inventory.
• The Glade and the Parlour handle breakfast, lunch and all day eating, and run their own shorter book. The Glade opens at 8:00 on weekdays and 9:00 at weekends; the Parlour starts at 9:00.
• The Lecture Room and Library is the three star room, open for lunch on Friday and Saturday and dinner Tuesday to Saturday, and it works differently from all of them. On every date checked, near and far, its times came back as a request rather than a table you hold. You are asking the restaurant, and a human answers. Plan on a conversation and a reply, not a confirmation email in ten seconds.
• The East Bar and pods take walk ins, with priority to diners, and the Parlour’s brunch is walk in too. Nothing to book, nothing to plan.

How far the book actually runs

The Gallery keeps roughly six months of runway, and the front edge is sharp. Looking at the live calendar on 10 September 2026, the furthest bookable Gallery dinner was Tuesday 9 March 2027. From 10 March onward the times turned into request buttons instead. Afternoon tea’s edge sat a few days earlier, around 4 March. That distinction is worth learning to read, because it looks like bad news and is not: a request button past the front edge means the date has not been released yet, not that it has sold out. Wait for it to roll into the window and it becomes a normal bookable evening.

The Glade and the Parlour run about three months instead. On the same morning they were bookable through Wednesday 9 December 2026 and request only from the tenth. So a birthday breakfast in the Glade and an anniversary dinner in the Gallery need two completely different reminders in your calendar. What fills first at Conduit Street

Afternoon tea is the engine here, not dinner. It is what the room is famous for, it is a two hour sitting for a pair, and it draws a birthday and celebration crowd that books further ahead than diners do. The evidence for that is easy to see in the calendar. On 10 September the ordinary Saturdays through the winter were wide open, twenty three tea slots each, but the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Valentine’s weekend 2027 had already gone to request only, five months out, while the Saturday one week later was still completely free. Christmas behaves the same way: the festive Christmas Exhibition tea runs from 12 November 2026 to 5 January 2027 at £120 for adults and £65 for under fifteens, with a glass of Pommery Brut Royal or a non alcoholic sparkling, and it is the single most contested thing sketch sells.

Three other patterns are worth knowing before you pick a date. The Gallery calendar shows 24 and 25 December and 31 December and 1 January as closed rather than sold out, so those four nights are not a planning problem, they are simply not available. Sunday evenings behave like Fridays because of Eat to the Beat, the live jazz set from 6.30pm with sketch’s resident band Somer playing soul jazz and bossa nova. And parties of nine and above flip the whole calendar to request, both for tea and for dinner, so eight is the practical online ceiling. Beyond that, sketch offers private dining for forty in the Lecture Room and sixteen in the Library, arranged by email rather than through the widget, and a group that size wants starting months before the date, not weeks.

Which seatings hold up longest

If your date is fixed and your time is flexible, sketch gives you more room to move than most Mayfair addresses.

• Late tea. The 15:45 to 16:30 end of the afternoon tea grid stays open long after the classic one o’clock sitting has gone, and the room is calmer for it.
• Monday to Thursday anything. The weekday tea window is shorter, noon to four, but it is the least contested seat in the building.
• The Gallery bar counter. It is sold as its own bookable option with the full a la carte and tapas menus, and on the jazz Sundays it is the seat closest to the band. Book it deliberately rather than treating it as what you settle for.
• The early dinner block. 17:30 to 18:30 clears far more reliably than eight o’clock, which was the one slot already gone on that Saturday two days out.
• Breakfast and set lunch in the Glade. Weekday breakfast from 8:00, and a set lunch at £36 for two courses or £40 for three, both of which sit on a calendar almost nobody is competing for.

Lock the date once, then stop thinking about it

The plan fits in one sitting. Decide the room before the date, because the Gallery and the Glade open on different horizons. A table claimed five months before the date is exactly the kind of table people later hand back, because plans made in October do not always survive until March. So the calendar for your Saturday is not frozen between the day you book it and the day you arrive.
